Hayward Police Department Pursues C.A.L.E.A. Reaccreditation

Hayward, Calif. November 23, 2020 – The Hayward Police Department is pursuing reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) an internationally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to improving law enforcement and public safety services.

The primary purpose of CALEA is to improve the delivery of public safety services by maintaining a comprehensive body of law enforcement standards, establishing and administering an accreditation process, and recognizing professional excellence. The Hayward Police Department has been accredited by CALEA since 2011. 

As a part of this assessment, members of the public are invited to comment by calling (510) 293-7190 on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additionally, the public is invited to participate in a virtual public information hearing on Monday, November 30, 2020, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Telephone and public information hearing comments are limited to 5 minutes and must address the agency’s CALEA reaccreditation application. 

The virtual public hearing will be conducted by Zoom webinar.  It will give members of the public an opportunity to interact with CALEA assessors, to provide commentary about the Hayward Police Department, or ask questions about the accreditation process.
